About the Author

Welcome to my little blog….now going on five years strong.

I am indeed a single working mom living on the Central Coast of California with my beautiful daughter, Maycee.   In addition to working full-time as a vineyard technician in the vineyard management industry, I also work part-time four nights a week at one of the barns where we keep our horses.  I enjoy playing music, making art,  and, of course, horseback riding.

I have a passion for raising Maycee and ensuring sure she is comfortable, happy, and healthy and is able to enjoy her childhood to the fullest despite any obstacles single parenting brings.  This blog chronicles the challenges of making that happen when you are on your own: the financial and emotional struggles, the balancing act, and the difficulty of being able to provide structure amidst it all.  Intertwined within these topics will also be the revelation of new-found strength and candor.  Hopefully, if you continue to read weekly, you will find stories that make you laugh, allow you to cry, and bring a sigh of relief knowing you are not alone.

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to hear from you!

  1. Hi Maycee’s Mom, I am a married, yet stay at home dad with two beautiful daughters. In a sense I feel we are opposites in that I would love to have that job again (as you do) as my way to provide structure for the girls. But you learn everyday, don’t you? I try to make amusing and colorful stories on my blog everyday. Maybe some day our kids can interview each other! On a side note, I find it interesting you work in the wine business. I worked in restaurants for many years and considered myself a good wine salesman. I studied a bit on American wines and European…and here it is your livelihood. I like it!

    • Thanks for reading, 3D! I will definitely check out your blog. One of my favorite types of people are SAHD’s. 🙂 My best friend’s hubby is one, and his blog (Five Things at Once) is what inspired me to write about my experiences, as well. And, perhaps opposites, I find that after doing this for awhile now, I define myself less and less by my singleparentedness. I’ve connected with all kinds of folks, and there are more similarities across the lines than differences. My line of work is in the vineyard manangement side of things, but wine is all around us, ha, ha! I look forward to reading more from you, and thanks, again, for your comments. 🙂

      • Thanks for your friend’s blog site! I will check it out. I feel kinda funny commenting on all these ‘mommy’ sites sometimes. I hear you “wine is all around us”…you should see my two when I tell them its nap time (whine, whine, whine) ; ) If your company needs an east coast manager or rep…I’m your guy! I look forward to reading more from you as well! Good luck to you!

  2. What a wonderful introduction,
I am visiting you this evening from
    Valentine’s Space and perhaps,
if I don’t scare any of your readers
away with my Profile I will call in
again and read some of your work
here in our vast blogosphere 🙂

Have a very Happy New Year 2013

      • Then I shall add you to my blogroll otherwise I won’t be able to find you again 😦 Have a wonderful evening and of course an exciting Friday also 🙂

  3. You are amazing, your daughter beautiful and blog so warm and welcoming. I wish I could convey mine as elegantly, sadly the written word isn’t my strength.
I’m so glad to have found your blog,

  4. Hi Kasey! Fun news…yours is the featured post from the last Mommy A to Z Manic Mondays blog hop! I’ll link to your blog and post at my next blog hop on 6/16. And since it was a special blog hop to celebrate my new book, you get a free copy! If you send me your email address at info@MommyAtoZ.com, I’ll send you a Kindle copy from Amazon. Thanks so much for linking up!

  5. Hi Kasey, I’m so glad I found your blog! I’m not a single mom (although I am the product of one, lol!) but we have a lot in common. I have a husband who has a long hours job so most of the time I operate as if I am a single parent. I teach horseback riding and homeschool my oldest (the other two are too young). I just started blogging and I’m looking forward to reading your thoughts and tips on balancing your work and parenting.

Now I'd love to hear from you...
